Here are the answers to yesterday’s quiz.
1. The Mets won 108 games in 1986 and 100 in 1988.
2. The most games the Yankees won in the 1980s was 103 in 1980.
3. Reggie Jackson hit 41 home runs in 1980, which was the highest single-season total by a New York player in the ’80s.
4. Darryl Strawberry hit the most home runs in the decade with 215. Dave Winfield was second with 205.
5. Rafael Santana played for the Mets from 1984–’87 and the Yankees in ’88.
6. Ron Guidry won 111 games and Dwight Gooden won 100.
7. Dave Righetti won the Rookie of the Year award in 1981, Darryl Strawberry won it in ’83 and Dwight Gooden won in ’84.
8. Ron Darling started the most games for the Mets in the 1980s with 206.
9. Ron Guidry (’82–’86), Don Mattingly (’85–’89) and Dave Winfield (’82–’85, ’87) all won five Gold Gloves.
10. The Yankees won 854 games while the Mets won 816. The Yankees won more games than any other team in the Majors in the 1980s. It was the only time since the 1910s that the team with the most wins in the decade didn’t win the World Series.
