New York Jets rookie runningback, Danny Woodhead, was placed on the waived injury list over the weekend after suffering a leg injury in practice on Friday. Woodhead rushed for a NCAA record 7,692 in his four seasons at Chardon State. He rushed for more than 200 yards, 19 times and scored a touchdown in 37 straight games, both are NCAA all-division records. As a junior he rushed for 2,756 yards and 34 TD’s. He also totaled 9,479 all-purpose yards, which is second highest in college football history. The Nebraska native was named a two-time Harlon Hill Trophy winner as the nation’s top Division II football player.
He was not invited to the pre-draft combine in February and was not one of the 27 running backs drafted. However, he had a strong pro day in Lincoln running the 40 between 4.33 and 4.38 He recorded a vertical jump of 38 1/2 inches and bench-pressed 225 pounds 20 times. Before the 2008 NFL draft ended he received a call from the Jets, and signed in April. He was looking to make the roster along with fellow undrafted players: Brandon Moore, Ben Graham, Wallace Wright, Stacy Tutt, Joe Kowalewski and Mike DeVito.
The 5’7” running back went down after running the ball during 11-11 practice drills. The fan favorite pointed to his knee and was carried off the field by fullback, Tony Richardson and runningback, Thomas Jones. The severity of the leg injury is unkown, and the Jets’ policy is not to discuss injuries. Woodhead, received a lot of work during the first three training camp practices on offense and special teams. The Jets are very deep at running back which consists of: Jehuu Caulcrick, Jesse Chatman, Musa Smith, Leon Washington and Thomas Jones. Danny Woodhead could be back with the Jets if he clears waivers.

I was pulling for him big-time
I AM pulling for him big-time…I don’t think he’s at all finished, perhaps even with the Jets.
I know you Chardon State fans have been pulling for the Lil’ Engine that Could, but here’s a nice consolation prize from my alam mater – Arizona State Sun Devils!
The Jets signed WR Rudy Burgess (5′10″, 186), an UDFA WR who was with the Colts until last week, then let go on Friday. Rudy Burgess who played collegiately at Arizona State, is one of only three active FBS players and one of only 14 FBS players all-time to top the 1,000-yard mark in rushing, receiving and return yardage.
In his career, Burgess has 1,093 yards on the ground, 1,524 yards through the air and 1,600 return yards on both punts and kickoffs. He has scored 19 times as a Sun Devil, six rushing, 12 receiving and one return. During his time in college Burgess saw duty as a receiver, running back and corner. He also threw a 43-yard touchdown pass to Derek Hagan in 2005 against Washington State.
Danny Woodhead played at Chadron State located in Chadron Nebraska – not Chardon State. I’ve seen him play in College. He’s real quick.
I will him all the luck in the world in recovering for his injury and returning to the NFL.
What is Danny’s status with his injury and future with the Jets?
