Teixeira: East or West Coast in 2009?

Mets Rumors & NewsYankees Rumors & News

Any hopes that Yankee or Met fans had of Mark Teixeira signing with either New York club this offseason took a major hit when the Angels acquired the switch-hitting first baseman earlier this week.
Despite some very hefty contracts and big names coming off the books for both New York locals, expect the Angels to lock up Teixeira, the big bat they had desperately coveted.
Teixeira, who is a .285 career hitter, has had 4 straight years of 30 homers and 100 RBI, has won 2 gold gloves and is still relatively young at 28 years of age.
While the Angels will have their own critical free agent decisions to make after the 2008 season, such as Vladimir Guerrero, Garret Anderson, John Garland, Francisco Rodriquez, and John Lackey, I still expect them to ante up in what will be a bidding war for Teixeira.  When the Angels included the young and inexpensive 1B Casey Kotchman as part of the trade for Teixeira, they clearly showed that they are …

Manny Ramirez Traded to the Dodgers

Mets Rumors & NewsYankees Rumors & News

Shocking news.  Despite persistent reports that a deal was exceedingly unlikely, the Boston Red Sox have at long last traded idiot savant slugger Manny Ramirez. Manny is headed to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a three-way deal that will land Pittsburgh’s Jason Bay in Boston, with the Dodgers’ Andy LaRoche and Bryan Morris and Boston’s Craig Hansen and Brandon Moss headed to the Pirates.

While it doesn’t seem the Mets were ever seriously in pursuit of Ramirez (despite the urgings of this blogger), you can officially cross he and Bay off the list of available corner outfielders now.  In fact, it appears that Mets GM Omar Minaya was unable to find reinforcements of any kind on deadline day.  Disappointing to say the least.

The Yankees, meanwhile, have catapulted from pretenders to contenders in just over a week’s time.  My head is spinning.

Why I Might Be Kind of Against the Jets Getting Brett Favre

Jets Rumors & News

I’m anticipating the Jets losing the Favre sweepstakes. I just don’t see Mangini and Tannenbaum making such a huge move when they have so much on the line in the upcoming season (their jobs). I don’t see Woody Johnson such a huge check either.

I have a deal with my subconscious. As long as I don’t try to interfere I’m allowed to identify my defense mechanisms as they happen. This one is most definitely rationalization. I’m rationalizing why the Jets should leave Favre alone. I’ve thought it over, I’ve looked at it from different perspectives, I’ve talked to football players (ok, ex high school football players but whatever), and I’ve watched lots and lots of Sports Center. I’ve come up with not just a reason, but as far as I can see, the only reason Mangini should not want Favre on his team.

Brett Favre is on the cover of Madden 09 and thus… he… is… cursed.

For those of you …

Randolph Morris to the Hawks

Knicks Rumors & News

Randolph Morris, who played in only 23 games in his two seasons with the New York Knicks, signed a two-year deal worth about $1.7 million with his hometown, Atlanta Hawks yesterday. The 6’11”, 260-pound big man became the first player in NCAA history to play in the NCAA tournament and NBA in the same week. Morris, decided to declare for the 2005 NBA draft as a freshman but did not sign with an agent. After going undrafted he returned to the University of Kentucky and was forced to sit out the first 14 games of his sophomore season. The NBA’s(CBA) did not allow Morris to re-enter the draft. As a junior, he was considered a free agent and could sign with a NBA team at seasons end. In his final season with the Wildcats he averaged 16.1 pounds, pulled down 7.8 rebounds, blocked 2.1 shots and shot 59% from the field in 34 games. He was also named …

Fantasy

A popular slogan used by coaches and managers throughout history is, “Defense wins championships.” In fantasy football, defense doesn’t make or break your season, but it does play a significant role in helping your team make the playoffs. The better fantasy defenses can be equivalent to even the top RB’s, which shows that they do make an important impact and should not be disregarded. When drafting a defense, there are several things an owner has to be aware of. Schedules, Special Teams Units, and age are 3 things that must be taken into account when drafting a defense.

Here are the top 15 defenses for the 2008 fantasy football season:

Mets Rumors & News

The Mets began their series with the Marlins with a one-game lead over Philadelphia and two games ahead of Florida. After losing two out of three, they now find themselves a half game behind the Phils and one game better than the Marlins. It’s the first time the Mets have lost a series since June 23-25 against the Seattle. You can’t win ’em all. The Marlins are sloppy but it seems to work for them. There was a rumor that the 1972 Miami Dolphins were in attendance, and when the Mets won the second game, ensuring neither team would go undefeated in the series, they popped open a bottle of champagne to celebrate.
Monday, Marlins 7-3: Throw Some Gasoline on That Fire, Scott
I’m getting tired of writing the words ‘bullpen meltdown.’ Joe Smith and Scott Schoeneweis blew up for five runs in the eighth inning, giving …
