You can’t blame Strahan for staying retired

Giants Rumors & News

At least Michael Strahan didn’t drag this thing out, making Giants fans sit on pins and needles.

In the aftermath of the season-ending injury to Pro Bowler Osi Umenyiora, many believed Strahan, the recently retired 36-year-old defensive end, would make his return and once again strap on the pads for Big Blue. Strahan seriously considered the deal for a good 24-hour period, before ultimately deciding he had nothing left to give to the franchise for which he played 15 seasons.

“I have gone back and forth on this because as a player you’ll always want to play,” Strahan told “You’ll never lose that urge to be out there. But I could only do this if I could commit 100 percent, physically, mentally, emotionally and I can’t do that. I’ve tried to convince myself and my body to give it one more year, but in the end I just don’t think I could turn it on like I need to again.”

Strahan’s decision shouldn’t come as surprise. The guy helped lead …

Just Another Mets-Phillies Game

Mets Rumors & News

It was another crazy, typical Mets-Phillies game. Where have we seen this before? As always, the Mets scored early and often. And as always, the Phillies scored late and often. When the Mets were winning 7-0 in the fourth inning, I was going to turn the TV off thinking there’s no way the Mets can win this game. And, unfortunately, they didn’t, losing 8-7. You’d normally say a loss like this would be devastating, but the Mets lose games like this pretty much every week. And almost every time they’ve lost to the Phillies this year, it’s been of the dramatic, come-from-behind variety. It’s almost expected. Couldn’t they just once lose 5-0? But the Mets have always bounced right back. We’ll see if they can do it once again.

There were a combined 1,091 games, 454 wins and 81+ years on the mound between last night’s starting pitchers. But they just looked old in this game. Jamie Moyer got rocked for six runs on nine hits in only three …

Jets introduce PSLs

Jets Rumors & News

The New York Jets announced yesterday that 27,000 upper deck seats in the new stadium will be exempt from personal seat license charges. Jets owner Woody Johnson said he listened to the fans when the plan was being devised. The Jets are moving into their new 82,000 seat home in 2010. However, the lower bowl seats will have PSLs ranging from $4,000 to $20,000. Club seats will also have PSLs ranging from $5,000 to $25,000.  Beginning in a few months, Jets fans will be able to select seats based on season ticket length seniority.
The “Coaches Club” section will be the most exclusive section in the new arena. Licenses will be auctioned to the highest bidders with tickets going for $700 a game. The plan also includes parking, food and soft drinks. About 12,000 season ticket holders and fans on the season ticket waiting list will …

A-Rod Fails In Must-Win For Yankees

Yankees Rumors & News

I like Alex Rodriguez. I really do. I think that he’s the best and most exciting player in baseball today. I also feel bad for those Yankee fans who truly dislike him because they are missing out on one of the best ball players in the history of the game.
But then there are nights like last night where it is almost impossible to defend him.
In the biggest game of the season, a must-win to get into the playoffs, A-Rod came up short. He came up so short that you could debate whether or not he actually showed up at all.
Going into last night’s game the Yankees had 32 games left to play and were five games out of control of the Wild Card. Coming back would be nearly impossible, but they had six head-to-head games remaining against the Red Sox. If they could win all six they could easily take the Wild Card. If not, it would still be a monumental task …
