This week’s winner was hard to choose from. The Jets lost. The Giants won but didn’t play particularly well. The Rangers went 1-1-1. The Islanders are the Islanders. And is there anybody out there who even knows that the Devils exist? It seems like we dodged a Hot Stove Player of the Week curse, though. Aaron Voros didn’t pull an Eli Manning. Sports are all about momentum.  Which team has it and which team has lost it.  Look at definition #2 above and now look at our lowly Jets.  Events have developed in such a manner that it seems just by taking the field the Jets are giving the opposing team momentum.  Favre’s first play against the Bengels?  Here’s the ball (fumble) and go score a touchdown.  Our first drive against the Patriots?  Missed chip shot.  Our first against the Cardinals?  offsides on the defense-NOT and another “here’s the ball, go score a …

Mets Make Coaching Changes

The Mets off-season reshuffling has begun. They started with their coaching staff. Jerry Manuel announced that Sandy Alomar, Sr., Sandy Alomar, Jr., (how many Alomars does it take to coach a team?), Howard Johnson and Dan Warthen all would be back for 2009.
Gone are Guy Conti, Luis Aguayo and Ken Oberkfell. All three will be reassigned within the organization. The new third-base coach will be Razor Shines. Yes, that’s his name. And the bullpen coach is old-friend Randy Niemann. There’s no word yet on who will take over at first base.
With Conti leaving it looks like the Mets won’t make an attempt to bring back Pedro Martinez. Conti was Pedro’s mentor, so it’s doubtful they would get rid of the coach and then try to re-sign Pedro. Oberkfell may end up as manager of new Triple A affiliate Buffalo. And jettisoning Aguayo was a no-brainer. He …
