They guy had a rough off-season last year & didn't prepare as he usually does & by the end of the year, he was gassed. They still need to acquire 2 good starters so Andy can be the 4th & Joba the #5. It's getting to the point where he looks like it's not Yankees or retire. I think he might be willing to hook up with another team, say the Astros as an example. And he's a type A free agent so what I'm thinking is that the Yankees should wait as long as they can before commiting to Pettitte. Don't offer him a contract, offer him arbitration and go from there. Best case scenario than you get picks, worst case you can resign him in February.
