Mets Get K-Rod

The Mets have reached an agreement with Francisco Rodriguez. (“That’s fun to say. Francisco. Frannncisco. Frannncisco.”) The contract is worth $37 million over three years, and there’s a rumor it includes a $14 million vesting option for a fourth year.
K-Rod was the best and safest closing option on the market, and Omar Minaya reeled him in for a lot less than the five-year $75 million contract that was making the rounds when the free agency period began. But the poor economy and the lack of big market teams in need of a closer had a lot more to do with that than Minaya being a genius. But he did play things right, though. He could have signed K-Rod right away and just gave the closer what he wanted, but he didn’t panic or rush and got him for almost Brian Fuentes money (most reports had him looking for a three-year $33 …

Week 6 NBA pickups



Jose Juan Barea (Mavericks)- Barea scored a season high 21 points against the Hawks on Saturday. He has played at least 30 minutes in his past two games with G/F Josh Howard sidelined with an ankle injury. In three games last week Barea averaged 18 points and four assists.

Lou Williams (76ers)- Williams has scored 15,16 and 13 points off the bench in his past three games. He also has four three-pointers and four steals in that span. He has played at least 20 minutes in three of his past six games as a key reserve for Philly.

Luke Ridnour (Bucks)- Ridnour averaged 11 points and six assists last week. In his past seven games he has 10 steals with seven three-pointers made. He also has played at least 31 minutes in three of his past four games.

Week 15 pickups



Darren Sproles (Chargers)- Sproles had 64 total yards and two receiving TDs against the Raiders last week.  The Chargers should utilize him more in Week 15 against a soft Chiefs defense that is ranked 29th against the pass and 30th against the run.

Tatum Bell (Broncos)- RB Peyton Hillis was placed on IR with a torn hamstring. Bell took over Hillis during the game last week and had 11 carries for 52 yards and caught two passes for 16 yards. He stands to get the majority of touches the rest of the way out of the Broncos backfield.

Wide Receivers

Deion Branch (Seahawks)- Branch has nine receptions in his past two games and caught two TDs last week against the Pats. He has at least 54 receiving yards in three of his past four games and has a great match up against the Rams this week that have allowed the 24th most passing yards in the NFL.
