Larrly Luv, you hit the nail on the head. Great point about the defense as well. Whoever the next coach is, he better enjoy the 3-4. For those of us who never wanted Favre here, this doesn't feel like vindication...it just feels like Gang Green hitting us where it hurts, once again.

I've got to disagree. A coach who's great at winning with an underdog but can't win with a good team is always going to be the underdog.
I'm happy for Chad but if he had remained with the Jets we would have been a 8 win team (I know we're not much better now) that never threatened anybody. the fact that Sparano knew how to use Chad so well only points to more problems with Mangini in my eyes.

As a forty year Jet fan who had reservations about getting Brett because of all the intangibles that Chad P. brings to a team(on the field coach ,work ethic etc...)I hate to say I told you so "BUT I TOLD YOU SO!!!!."We are now faced with a fractured locker room filled with negativity and Only THE SAME OLD JETS could have pulled off such a brilliant move.I think letting Mangini go was a mistake,ONE MORE YEAR he did not throw 22 interceptions and the fact that the only 3-4 coach out there shunned us shows once again the utter lack of planing and process that this pathetic organization has As all the 4-3 players were jettisoned. To all the masochists of the world come join our cause! Be a jet fan and experience this continual pain with us...Picture this we hand a starting QB to a division rival and he goes on to complete one of the greatest turn arounds both individually and team related in league history and in the process becoming the only player to win Come Back Player Of The Year awards twice .And the coach who helped put this jet team together gets terminated as a result but not the GM(oh wait 7 pro-bowlers).Great take them i would gladly trade the pro bowl appearances to win to win.As a result of the firing the 3-4 defence that has been implemented is now in jeopardy because the 3-4 coach that is on the market does not want to coach here, and rather then being flexible and firing if necc.the gm to bring in this winning coach the owner says "this structure" must remain intact ie. gm coach dynamic' because it has been sooooo successful for this organization and its winning ways. But go back for a moment and envision the old coach "Mangini' given one more year and the hiring of his long time friend one of the greatest DC's ever "Romeo Crennel" who was just fired by Cleveland(and the jet GM who still has a Job and his finger on the pulse of the league sees this coming) and the jets going in to Fox-Borough with that coach who last helped bring a championship to New-England and facing the dreaded patriots together.AH THE BEAUTIFUL IRONY WE CHEER AND SNICKER AS JET FANS WE HAVE FATE ON OUR SIDE...ah but to no avail we let opportunity slip away and practice the long Jet tradition of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory as efficiently and as fluidly as if it was in our DNA!!!! Only the Effin NEW JERSEY JETS WHO WILL ALWAYS BE TH UGLY YOUNGER BROTHER OF THE TEAM IT SHARES A STADIUM WITH COULD DO THIS WITH SUCH GRACE.JUST PATHETIC!JUST-END-THE-SEASON...JUST-END-THE-SWINDLE...JUST-END-THE-STING-JUST-END-THE-SHAM!!!!!!!!!!

I really couldn't disagree more. Prior to the season, folks all around the NFL were laughing at the Jets for going after Favre. This is a move for a team on the cusp, they said, not for a franchise coming off its second 4-12 season in 3 years. Well, guess what - they were right! I heard a lot of people predicting this team would have difficulty going 8-8, so by that standard they actually exceeded expectations. Clearly the win in Tennessee and the 7 Pro Bowlers got a lot of fans drinking the Gang Green Kool-Aid, but what is so surprising about a team with a 40-year-old quarterback fading in the second half? As for Mangini, clearly Bill Belichick he ain't, but the complaints that are being logged against him could be said of any coach in this league without a Super Bowl on his resume. TheJetsBlog's Corey Griffen summed it up perfectly: "This franchise continues in the same cycle coach after coach, aborted five-year plan after five-year plan. You win in the NFL with consistency — in front office, on the sidelines and in the booth. The players can change but the foundation cannot. Otherwise, you’re constantly involved in a rebuilding plan to fit the new coach’s systems. Now, the Jets are circling the coaching waiving wire, seeking someone to last longer than three years — again." I couldn't agree more. This is the same old Jets, as far as I'm concerned. Always thinking they're better than they are, a fanbase that feels they're somehow entitled to winning despite the fact that their team hasn't sniffed the Super Bowl in decades. Enough already. I could care less who coaches this team in 2009 because I won't be watching.
