Week 17 pickups

Running backs

Fred Jackson (Bills)-  RB Marshawn Lynch left the game in the second quarter with a shoulder injury which allowed Jackson to total 113 yards of offense against the Broncos. He rushed for a TD  in the fourth quarter and could start in Week 17 if Lynch is out.

Jaamal Charles (Chiefs)- Charles caught three passes for 102 yards against the Dolphins last week. He only carried the ball three times but has a favorable matchup against the Bengals this week.

Honorable mention: Ladell Betts (Redskins)

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly: Giants vs. Panthers

Giants Rumors & News

Wow, what a game. If this is an NFC Championship game preview, sign me up. Of course, the Giants have to get there first, but after the last two games, this 34-28 come-from-behind, resilient victory was a good start to get back to where they were. And this wraps up the #1 seed in the conference and home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

The Good

Welcome back, offensive line. They looked like they were their old selves again, and were back together with Kareem McKenzie returning to the lineup. They opened up 301 yards worth of holes, proving again that they’re the best run-blocking group in the NFL. And they changed some of their protection schemes to avoid a repeat of last week’s eight-sack debacle in Dallas. Their blocking led the way for the star of the game – Derrick Ward. He had a career day, with 215 yards on 15 carries. It was only the second time in NFL history that a running back had 15 or fewer …

The Rangers in California: 20 Things We Learned

Rangers Rumors & News

1. The Rangers can win on the West Coast.

2. The Rangers can play a good all-around game and win (in Anaheim).

3. They can play terribly, only to be saved by their goalie (Steve Valiquette), and still win (in LA).

4. They can compete against the best team in the NHL (at least when that team is tired from a cross-country road trip).

5. The Rangers can dominate a third period against the best team in the NHL and still not score a goal.

6. Another team besides the Rangers can cough up the puck in their own zone with horrible giveaways, leading to goals (thanks Scott Niedermayer and Chris Pronger).

7. Tom Renney can roll out the same lines five games in a row.

8. Even though the team won four out of those five games and three in a row, Renney will change the lines up anyway for the sixth game.

9. The Rangers can actually score power play goals (in Anaheim and LA).

10. Those power play goals came on a penalty …

Jets Rumors & News

Anxiety for Jets fans is running high these days.  I spent half of my time behind the bar last night commiserating with customers hashing out our dire situation.  Dire because history tells us the Jets are going to fold like a totem pole made of cards when the Jets face the Seahawks.  In reality, the Jets are sitting pretty .

The abused puppy syndrome is running rampant throughout our ranks and causing us to lose focus on the real situation. Remember back when Favre first got here and we were all expecting him to get crushed between our patchwork line?  We didn’t know if he’d make it through one game much less the whole season.  The hope was a Wild Card birth:  the Patriots looked untouchable,  Thomas Jones looked suspect.  Would Favre and Coles ever get along?

Now, here we are in December sitting in 1st place with two easy games ahead of us and everyone I talked to last night drank their half full beers and cowered from …

Jets Rumors & News

It’s only six days until Christmas. When I was a kid, my family would gather round the tree, wearing our matching sweaters, and sing Christmas carols every year. We would feel so jolly and Christmasy that we wouldn’t even hide my brother Tiny Greg’s crutches as a practical joke, which we would often do the rest of the year. The laughs that used to get, as we’d watch him crawl around the house in tears looking for them! And we’d really know it’s Christmas when my younger brother, little Zuzu (his real name was either Eric or Steve; we were never really sure which), would say, “Look Mommy, every time a bell rings, Daddy has another drink.” This week’s prize for the Hot Stove Player of the Week is a CD of all the Christmas classics my family would belt out together: “Santa Claus Is Not Coming to Town Because He Hates You,” “Whizzy, the Yellow-Snowed Snowman,” “Santa’s Not Wearing Pants Again,” “I Saw Mommy …

I’d Rather Get Beat Up In an Alley- Lucky

Jets Rumors & News

There I was, a grown ass man, on my knees two feet from the television.  It’s been a long time since I’ve been in this position, maybe twenty years.  It’s funny how desperation can drive a person all the way to the fetal position.  Jets paraphernalia lay strewn about the room; anything I could throw had already been chucked in a violent manner.  My Patriots fan roommate was already warming up his gloating voice.  My girlfriend was wearing a Jets Santa hat to humor me.  I’m not proud of this moment.  I was on my knees and I wasn’t even alone.

Favre couldn’t complete a pass in the fourth quarter, we went 3 and out from our own f%#@ing endzone, our defense couldn’t tackle Lynch if world peace depended on it, and we were down by four.  Dead in the water- that’s what I thought.  An entire season of almost heart attacks, huge victories, pathetic defeats, and nonsensical coaching was about to come to an end.  That’s when …

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly: Giants vs. Cowboys

Giants Rumors & News

What happened to the mojo of the New York Giants? Remember when they were the best team in football? Now they don’t even look like a good team, let alone the best. They’ve looked terrible two weeks in a row. Sure, they’re just jockeying for home field advantage and a bye in the first round of the playoffs, so there isn’t monumental importance to these last few games, but what happened?

The Good

Nothing ever good comes from the Dallas Cowboys winning. Ever. No matter who they’re playing. Jerry Jones is insufferable. Terrell Owens is insufferable. Tony Romo is insufferable. The only good thing ever associated with the Cowboys is this movie (yes, Bucky Dent starred alongside Jane Seymour and Bert Convy). That’s it.

The Bad

When the most exciting play of the game for you is a safety and your best players on the field are John Carney and Jeff Feagles, you know you’re in trouble. Eli Manning didn’t have a chance in this game. He had no protection, …
