The Pittsburgh Steelers traded former Super Bowl MVP Santonio Holmes to the New York Jets for a 5th round pick (153rd overall) in the upcoming draft. The Jets got the former first-round pick at a discount because he is facing a four-game suspension for violating the leagues substance-abuse policy. The low compensation shows how much the Steelers wanted to get rid of him.

He is also facing  accusations of assaulting a woman in an Orlando nightclub. General Manager Mike Tannenbaum has not been scared to trade for players with a troubled background.  He previously traded for WR Bryalon Edwards and CB Antonio Cromartie. (They will be free agents in the next off-season)

3 reasons why this is a steal:

1) This is the last season of Holmes’ rookie contact which also makes him a free agent in the off-season.

2) In his 4th NFL season he set career highs in receptions (79) and yards (1248).

3) Upgrades the Jets trio of WR’s (Jerricho Cotchery and Braylon Edwards) to one of the best in the NFL

Hard Knocks is going to be very interesting.

Jets CB Darrelle Revis was pleased with the move. In a message on twitter, he said:

“Wow we got holmes this is crazy. We makin big moves this off-season. Putting the pieces together to get closer to that superbowl ring.”
