“While the Knicks will target LeBron James first, they are no less interested in Dwyane Wade, a source tells ESPN’s Chad Ford”
According to the source:
Plan A: Pair James and Bosh
Plan B: Wade and Bosh
Plan C: James and Wade
Plan D: James or Wade and Dirk
How this works?
– Knicks are about $34 million under the salary cap. Which means they can sign two free agents to max contracts.
– Bosh listed New York on his list as one of his five “preferred” teams. The Knicks could use David Lee to acquire Bosh in a sign-and-trade.
– Dirk plans to opt out of his contract will make him a free agent.
– Head Coach Mike D’Antoni, is an assistant coach for Team USA and has built relations with James, Wade and Bosh.
– The roster has talented young players. Danilo Gallinari is 21, Bill Walker is 22, Wilson Chandler is 23, Toney Douglas is 24.
– Adding two high profile free agents could attract veterans to play on minimum contracts.
– New York has had winning tradition and is ready to put the past decade behind them.
– During the 90’s, the Knicks won 50+ games six times and reached the NBA Finals twice.
– The Knicks have invested in state-of-the-art equipment and hired a world-renowned training staff. MSG is also upgrading the facility which will cost about $850 million.
