For anybody out there who thinks bringing Jason Kidd to New York is a bad idea, I slap you with a ham.
Let’s take a look at 10 reasons why the Knicks MUST bring J Kidd to New York.
10. The Knicks suck. J Kidd is awesome.
9. J Kidd loves New York. New York loves J Kidd. I believe that’s a palindrome.
8. J Kidd fits perfectly into Mike D’Antoni’s run and gun system. Even better than Steve Nash.
7. Jason Kidd is one of the 5 greatest point guards to ever play this game. Say what you want, he’s a beast. The Knicks don’t have many top 5 anythings, except maybe the five worst contracts, or the five most out of shape players. Or the 5 worst draft picks in NBA history.
6. J Kidd still has gas in the tank. And it’s not 87. He’s not a “slasher” like Iverson, nor a half-court guy like Chris Paul. He doesn’t take a lot of abuse, and surprisingly, for a point guard, doesn’t even have the ball in his hands …
The Knicks plan to meet with Mavericks PG Jason Kidd tomorrow on the opening day of the free agency period. The Mavs can pay him any amount to the league maximum to retain his services ($8 million). The two ways the Knicks can acquire him is through offering the mid-level exception of $5-$6 million dollars or a sign-and-trade. The team has commodities such as Nate Robinson and David Lee who are on the block.
Kidd, played with the New Jersey Nets for 6 1/2 seasons while leading them to the finals in back to back years. He would be an upgrade over PG Chris Duon and provide the team with heart and playoff experience. In his 14th year he missed one regular season game and he finished fifth in assists (8.7) and third in steals (1.98). The future Hall of Fame point guard has won two gold medals (2000 and 2008) and is known for making his teammates play at a higher level. A scouting director said his value now lies …
Jordan Hill (Arizona-8th overall)- With Tyreke Evans, Ricky Rubio, Johnny Flynn and Stephen Curry all off the board the Knicks selected Hill. The 6′10″ junior  forward averaged 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Wildcats last season. He played for three different coaches at Arizona but improved his scoring and rebounding each season. Donnie Walsh  was high on his athletiscm, ability to run the floor and block shots. Drafting Hill also provides insurance if the Knicks make a sign and trade with David Lee.
Toney Douglas (Florida State-29th overall)- The Knicks purchased this pick from the Lakers for $3 million dollars. Douglas was a All-America Third Team selection and the ACC Defensive Player of the Year. The 6′2″ guard averaged 21. 8 points (led the ACC). The senior also guided the Seminoles to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in a decade and into the ACC Tournament championship game for the first time in school history. He also provides the Knicks insurance if they decide to make a sign and …
ESPN radio and Alan Hahn of Newsday are reporting the Knicks bought the Timberwolves 28th overall pick for three million dollars. The Knicks now have two picks in the first round (8 and 28). Donnie Walsh could be adding picks to move up in the draft. There is a possibility they could trade into the top 5 or use the 28th pick and cash to move into the teens. If they decide to stand pat they should look at these players if they are available: Jeff Teague, Patty Mills, Chase Budinger, Toney Douglas, Danny Green, Tyler Hansbourough and Darren Collinson.
The Knicks were looking to acquire the Wizards 5th overall pick but they traded that to the Timerwolves yesterday. Donnie Walsh said there is a 95 percent chance the Knicks will not make a move before the NBA Draft. The Daily News speculates if Ricky Rubio, Stephen Curry and Tyreke Evans are all off the board the Knicks could look at Duke SG Gerald Henderson with the 8th selection. However, they should be looking at Johnny Flynn, Jrue Holliday and Brandon Jennings instead.
What makes Henderson appealing is his high basketball IQ and strong character traits. His father played in the NBA for 13 seasons including a one year stint with the Knicks. The 21-year old worked out for the Knicks back on June 10th. What turned me off about Henderson is he struggled during the NCAA Tournament  knocking down just 1-out-of 11 three pointers in three games. He shot 1-14 in a 23 point loss to Villanova, which marked his final collegiate game.
Possible scenarios:
1. Instead they draft  Flynn, Holiday, Jennings, Demar Derozan, Jordan Hill (If Curry and Evans are gone)
2. …
The New York Knicks have a discussed a blockbuster draft trade with the Washington Wizards. Rumors have swirled that the Knicks would acquire the Wizards fifth pick and be able to keep there own selection (eighth). The Knicks covet Stephen Curry and there is no guarantee he will be there at eight. Wilson Chandler, would likely be involved in the deal as he has showed his potential last season. The 6′8″ swing-man had a breakout season averaging 14.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 0.9 blocks. He is also just 22-years old and is under contract for the next three seasons.
However, the Knicks would rather trade ex-Wizard players Larry Hughes and Jared Jeffries. This past season the Wiz tried to trade for Hughes when he was on the Bulls for Mike James and Etan Thomas. They also inquired about Jeffries during the trade deadline. However, moving Jeffries will be difficult since he is owed $13.2 million dollars over the  next two seasons.
Hughes was productive in Washington averaging a career best 22 points during …
Former UCLA guard Jrue Holiday is working out for the Knicks today in Westchester. Holiday is a 6′3″ combo guard with a long wingspan (6′7″) and a quick first step. He struggled in his freshman season averaging 8.5 points but scouts are high on him like they were about Russel Westrbook. Westbrook, a former UCLA guard was drafted by Seattle with the fourth overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft. Westbrook is also 6′3″ and has a similar wingspan and versatility as Holiday. He had a very good rookie season avearging 15.3 points, 5.3 assists and 4.9 rebounds for the Thunder.
Holiday has the potential to become an exiciting pro player. He was named the Gatorade National Boys player of the Year in high school. The California native averaged 25.4 points, 11.2 rebounds, 6.4 assists, 4.4 steals and 2.4 blocks per game during 07-08. Playing point guard he finished high school as the state’s 14th all-time leading scorer. He struggled at UCLA becuase Head Coach Ben Howland’s system did not fit his skill …
Former Syracuse point guard Johnny Flynn is set to work out for the Knicks in Westchester today. Stephen Curry who has been linked to the Knicks is scheduled to work out tomorrow. Flynn averaged 17.4 points and 6.7 assists last year as a sophmore. The New York native was fourth in the Big East in scoring and second in assists. Even though he is listed as 6′0″ his wingspan measured at 6″4″ inches. He suffered a broken ankle in eighth grade which he believes spurred his growing. He wears a size-14 shoe and has the play making ability a taller guard would have.
Despite his lack of size he posted the best vertical leap at the draft combine with 40-inches. Not only can he jump but he led the Orange to the Sweet 16 this past season. The 20-year old played one of his best games in the Garden scoring 34 points against UCONN. The Big East quarterfinal game lasted six overtimes where Flynn played 67 minutes and shot 16-16 …
The Knicks are looking to add a center with their $5 million mid-level exception. The team has been last in block shots the past two seasons. Donnie Walsh is very high on Orlando Magic big man Marcin Gortat. The Knicks director of pro scouting is Peter Gabriel, who does a lot of scouting at Magic games. The Polish born center backs up Dwight Howard which means he has a limited role with the team. Magic GM Otis Smith can match any offer, but for financial reasons may not want to re-sign him to pay the luxury tax.
During the regular season the 25-year old started three games where he averaged 10 points, 11.7 rebounds and three blocks per game. The 7-footer had eight rebounds, four blocks and two steals in the first game of the NBA Finals in 20 minutes. The Knicks are very thin at center and can not rely on Eddy Curry to make an impact until he gets into game shape.  The Knicks can not have Jared Jeffries starting any more games …
Austin Daye did not have an impressive draft camp last week testing as one of the least athletic players. The Gonzaga forward could not not lift the 185-bench press once and his vertical was tied for last at 28 inches. He also finished last in a 3/4 court sprint. However, his wingspan and reach were the third best at the combine. His weak results are very surprising for such a promising player. Even with such a poor camp he still could be picked in the lottery. Daye is a versatile player who can defend and score from anywhere on the court. As a sophomore he averaged 12.7 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.1 blocks and shot 43% from three. Daye blocked at least two shots in 20 of his 34 games. The Knicks have been last in the NBA in blocked shots the past two seasons.
Daye is built similar to Golden State Warriors forward Anthony Randolph who was taken 14th overall in last year’s NBA Draft. Coming out of LSU he …
The New York Knicks offered to buy the Memphis Grizzlies 27th pick in the NBA Draft for $3 million. The Grizzlies rejected the offer but the Thunder and Bulls have multiple picks in the first round which could be up for sale. The Timberwolves own three first round picks which could be on the block as well. The Hornets who pick at 21 are  having financial problems and acquiring $3 million would be attractive.
Players the Knicks should look at if they land a pick ranging from 18-27. This all depends what they do with the eighth selection.
Patty Mills (PG-St. Marys), Jeff Teague (PG-Wake Forrest), Darren Collinson (PG-UCLA), Toney Douglas (SG-Florida State), Sam Young (SF-Pitt), Gani Lawal (PF-Georgia Tech), B.J Mullens (C-Ohio St),
There also has been speculation that the Knicks are interested in acquiring Memphis center Darko Milicic. Any deal would have to include Quentin Richardson, who’s contract expires after the 2009-2010 season. Richardson only averaged eight points the last three months of the season. He fell out of the starting unit and missed time with …
The NBA draft is just around the corner, which is a good time to reminisce about some major draft blunders. In order from 5 to 1. Okay let’s do this.
5- 1998. Los Angeles Clippers. Round 1. Pick 1. Michael Olowokandi (Pacific)
Usually, when you have the first pick in the BASKETBALL draft, you don’t choose a SOCCER player. The Kandi Man only played a handful of organized basketball when the Clipp-Show decided to put all of it’s eggs into the Kandi basket. Looks like those eggs were soft-boiled, as Olowokandi isn’t even playing anymore, while draft-mates Vince Carter, Antawn Jamison, Mike Bibby, and Dirk Nowitzki are supposedly playing O.K. So I hear.
4- 2001. Washington Wizards. Round 1. Pick 1. Kwame Brown (Glynn Academy)
New GM Michael Jordan wanted to make a big splash by drafting a HS player first overall. And he did make a splash. Right into a pool of crap. Brown is lazy and soft, a deadly combination. He also sucks, which …
